"The common advice given to children who call the service is that children are free to disregard parental instruction and instead make up their own minds as to what they will choose to do. The public school has no business giving students that instruction," said Jim Hochberg, a Christian attorney handling the case. He told the Evangelical Press Service that the court has granted a temporary restraining order prohibiting employees of the Department of Education or any of their agents from distributing Teen-Line promotional materials on school grounds during instructional time. "Taken as a whole the messages contained in the 'Teen-Line' counseling tapes present information to children from an authority figure, sponsored, promoted, endorsed and supported statewide by public schools, which undercuts certain sincerely held religious beliefs of parents regarding the religious and moral values which they seek to instill in their children, and fails to advise the children that state law requires minors to obey the lawful instruction of their parents," states the complaint against school officials.
